The pictures below of the inside of the theatre clearly show the task ahead of us. The outside is sound and during the past 2 years a grant from Walgett Shire Council was made available to do repairs to the roof outside, the guttering and downpipes. Funding from any source would be welcomed and appreciated in order to make repairs to the ceiling, screen and stage area, replace the old curtains and decorate throughout. The foyer and projector room are unseen from these views but also require complete refurbishment. Just how much of the original seating can be salvaged isn't known as yet, so new seating may have to be provided. In addition, of course, would be new projection equipment for both the indoor and outdoor theatres. Should there be anyone out there who is feeling generous or anyone interested in reviving old theatres like this, then we would love to hear from you. Collarenebri is desperate for this facility to be fully operational once again. Even the young kids in the town have started a collection inside the store which is a great tribute to them.
Isabel Flick was an aboriginal activist who first made a stand in Collarenebri against segregation within the theatre. Read some of her story on the next page.
